The questions guests ask first

Clear answers, straight from the reserve. Updated June 2026.

Is Gondwana malaria-free?

Yes. Gondwana lies in the Western Cape, well outside any malaria zone, so no medication is needed. One of the few free-roaming Big Five reserves safe for young children and pregnant guests.

How far is it from Cape Town?

About four hours by road on the N2, or a 50-minute flight to George followed by a short transfer. The natural safari extension of a Cape Town and winelands trip.

Can I bring the children?

Yes, all ages. Lehele Lodge runs a Junior Ranger programme and family villas have interleading rooms. Rare at this tier, where many lodges turn under-tens away.

What wildlife will I see?

Free-roaming Big Five, more than ten antelope species, the southernmost free-roaming elephants on earth, plus Cape mountain zebra, bontebok and sable in the endangered species zone.

Is there a walking safari?

Yes. The three-night Pioneer Trail is the only fynbos walking safari of its kind, led by armed field guides through remote wilderness.

Do you host honeymoons and weddings?

Yes. Private dinners and exclusive-use villas suit honeymoons, and intimate fynbos ceremonies and elopements are welcome, with the reserve as your backdrop.

Can I cycle or play golf here?

Mountain bike safaris run across the reserve's 16,000 hectares, and championship Garden Route golf courses are a short drive away, easily paired with game drives.

When should I come?

Any time of year, with a climate often called second only to Hawaii. Spring brings the fynbos into flower, winter brings crisp game-viewing and the calving season. The reserve never closes.
